THE IDEA

Our plan this cruising season is to begin taping ourselves and others through work and play on the boat. What we find most fascinating about cruising, is being about to anchor up in small places-- many not accessible by roads, or the average traveler, and hear their stories, their history, and be able to connect that with our own. To be able to share those experiences and learn from them is the goal of the podcast-- as well as just connecting with our family and friends in a fresh new way. We want to challenge ourselves to make meaningful connections in each place we visit by swapping stories.

The TAPe

The dream of making this podcast has become a reality-- a very fun and time-consuming reality! In between boat working and preparations for the ocean crossing, I (Giselle) have been recording sounds and interviews, editing frantically early in the morning and late at night, in order to get out some excellent content. 

Sailing is incredibly audible. You can lay inside the hull and hear the speed of the boat change, the lapping of the waves, the swishing of the canvas, even whale songs penetrate through the fiberglass. You become, very literally, in tune with your boats' sounds, creeks and groans. The sailors themselves are also very giving with their stories and experiences. Learning through stories and oral history is very much alive and well in cruising culture. What a powerful way to share our experiences and adventures more fully!
